AMMAN (IRNA) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan Monday evening sent a message of condolence to the Iranian nation and government, particularly the families of victims, of the tragic plane crash in Tehran.

In his message addressed to President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, the king wished the families of the 36 victims of the tragic event grace and strength to bear their sorrow.

An Antonov-74 military plane belonging to the Islamic Revolution's Guard Corps (IRGC) crashed at 07:20 A.M. Monday morning (0350 GMT) after one of its engines caught fire while it was attempting to take off from Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport bound for the southern city of Shiraz.

The IRGC, in a statement issued after the crash, said that 30 revolutionary guards along with the plane's six crew were martyred.

Two of the plane's passengers, both revolutionary guards, were saved but suffered injuries and are now being treated in hospital.

A technical investigation has been launched by experts of the IRGC's Air Force to find the cause of the crash.
